Dear ipw reader,
I just came back from World Bio Markets Conference in Amsterdam, where a couple of traditional players in the pulp and paper industry had shown up as well. UPM was one of them: The company is intensively preparing for its new Bio Verno biofuel to be launched at the beginning of next year. A few days later, UPM, Fortum & Valmet announced they will jointly develop a new, winning technology to produce advanced high value lignocellulosic fuels, such as transportation fuels or higher value bio liquids. Then, during the company’s Capital Markets Day in London, President and CEO Jussi Pesonen underlined that UPM had made firm progress in transforming from an integrated paper producer into a Biofore company. It definitely seems as if some companies can now start to reap the fruits of their labor and might even soon be able to push the pedal to the metal.
