Bellmer: Upgrading PM1 at Hamburger Rieger, Germany

With a total investment of EUR 18 million, PM 1 will be modified for the production of coated white testliner (White Top Testliner). With this step, the product portfolio will be expanded with respect to quality. Since Hamburger Rieger puts particular importance on innovative technology, the company awarded Bellmer with this order.

Bellmer will supply the coating tool TURBOCombi Coater, combining proven technology with best reliability. The scope of Bellmer supply also includes new parts for the pre-dryer section and the dissolving pulper ahead of the sizer. A hard-nip calender will ensure the pre-calendering and the profiling of the paper web.

Pre- and post dryer sections will be re-configured, too. Here, the Bellmer subsidiaries Lang and Hafner are playing a leading role. The required changes regarding air and hood technology in the pre- and post dryer sections, extraction system of the new pulpers and modifications at the hood of the filmpress will be performed by Hafner. The steam and condensate system will be updated to the latest state of technology by Lang. Since the main focus lies on an energy-efficient plant, Solaronics will provide an IR-dryer type UniDryer. Existing aggregates like the soft-nip calender and the pope reeler will be relocated.

Bellmer has completely assumed the tasks of engineering, project management, dismounting, erection as well as start-up and training of personnel.

Andreas Noss, managing director of Hamburger Rieger GmbH, concludes: “We have chosen Bellmer since they presented the most convincing overall package. That included – starting in the offer phase – detailed engineering work far above standard margins. Furthermore, we have come to appreciate Bellmer as a reliable and competent partner during quite a number of rebuild projects they have implemented at our second location in Germany (mill in Trostberg, Bavaria).”

It is planned that the Spremberg mill will start production of coated testliners early 2015.
