Toscotec to complete cogeneration plant upgrade at Cartiera del Vignaletto

Toscotec completed an energy-saving project at Cartiera del Vignaletto at its facility in Zevio, near Verona. The project features the complete upgrade of the cogeneration plant and air systems of the mill’s PM4 and PM5. The initial aim of the rebuild was to increase the energy efficiency of the mill’s operation by installing innovative equipment.

The production facility features two paper machines with a combined capacity of approximately 46,000t/y, manufacturing high-quality tissue products including facial tissue, toilet paper, tissues, and kitchen towel. Operating at speeds of 1,200 m/min-1,700 m/min, the machines produce tissue paper with a basis weight ranging from 15 to 40 g/m2.

The site is equipped with a 5.5 MW gas turbine capable of supplying electrical power to both machines. Toscotec’s scope of supply covered the complete rebuild of the thermal power system. This upgrade enables the full recovery of the gas turbine’s exhaust gas to supply heat to the air systems for both hoods, as well as to generate both high- and low-pressure steam for PM4 and PM5.

Through this project, the entire thermal and air system has been fully redesigned and optimized to achieve maximum energy efficiency, meeting project performance guarantees. In fact, the complete system has been fully revised to achieve the best efficiency possible.

Stefano Pecchia, Energy Technology Director at Toscotec, states, “With this project, Toscotec proves its value as a partner dedicated to tailored, energy-saving solutions that drive long-term efficiency and sustainability.”

Giovanni Pomari, Plant Director at Cartiera del Vignaletto, says, “Completing this project required strong cooperation between Toscotec and our technical team at Cartiera del Vignaletto, supported by the long-term vision of our ownership. The result gives our mill a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy platform for its future development.”
