Leadership Change in Technical Management at Steinbeis Papier GmbH

Steinbeis Papier GmbH, manufacturer of recycled graphical papers in Europe, has announced a significant leadership transition. Effective 1 February 2026, Dr Frank Wenig will succeed Andreas Rauscher as Technical Managing Director.

A seasoned executive, Dr Wenig has risen through the company’s own ranks and will now assume responsibility for all technical issues and activities throughout the organisation. He holds a doctorate in Wood Science and Technology and has been with Steinbeis Papier since 2012. During this time, he played a key role in new technological developments at the company – from the optimisation of waste paper processing and the management of production at paper machine 4 to the development of innovative product solutions such as wet-strength label paper made from 100% recycled paper. Since October 2021, he has been Head of Research and Development. In this capacity, he is responsible for both product development and the sustainability strategy, with a clear focus on reducing CO2 emissions throughout the value chain (Scope 1–3). Dr Wenig will continue in his current role as Head of Research and Development.

“We are delighted to have found an excellent internal successor for this strategically important position,” says Michael Söffge, Managing Director of Steinbeis Holding GmbH. “Dr Wenig’s in-depth expertise with regard to the circular economy, his innovative spirit and his clear focus on sustainability make him the ideal person to continue to pursue our vision of climate-neutral paper production by 2040. We are convinced that he will play a major role in shaping future technology developments at Steinbeis Papier.”

Says Christian Sprunk, Head of Human Resources at Steinbeis Holding: “The appointment of Dr Wenig sends a clear message regarding sustainability in practice in human resources development. He knows our company and our processes inside out, has helped shape key innovations and enjoys a high level of trust throughout the team. We look forward to continuing to work with him, and we wish him every success in his new role.”

Dr Frank Wenig has the following to say about his new role: “I am grateful for the trust that has been placed in me and I look forward to actively shaping the future of Steinbeis Papier in my new role. Working together with our highly motivated team, we will address the challenges ahead and continue to strengthen our position as a leading innovator for sustainable paper solutions.”

Andreas Rauscher, who has held the position of Technical Managing Director since February 2022, will leave the company following a short handover period. The management board and supervisory board would like to thank Mr Rauscher for his valuable contributions to the further development of technical processes. We wish him all the best for the future both privately and professionally.
