Metso: Reducing workforce in Finland by 660 positions


Metso’s Pulp, Paper and Power segment has completed statutory negotiations in most of units serving the paper industry. As a result of these, the workforce in Finland will be reduced by a total of 660 positions.

Stora Enso: Montes del Plata pulp mill project delayed


Stora Enso’s and Arauco’s joint-venture pulp mill project Montes del Plata in Uruguay has been expected to begin the mill start-up process at the end of the third quarter of 2013. The mill site is 92% complete and the commissioning of certain areas has already begun. However, the main technology contractors have informed Montes del Plata that they will not be able to complete the work according to the agreed timetable.

Voith: Cutting back another 560 jobs


Voith Paper is preparing for a further worsening of the global paper market with a package of measures. Associated with that is a planned cut-back of another approximately 560 jobs at various locations in Germany and Austria.

Sappi’s Alfeld Mill PM2 Rebuild Increases Speciality Paper Capacity

The ambitious rebuild of Paper Machine 2 (PM2) at Sappi’s Alfeld Mill is designed to modernize the 300-year-old mill and prepare it to address changing market demands. The replacement of the existing MF (machine finished) drying section with a new MG (machine glazed) cylinder brings more smoothness and gloss combined with high strength characteristics to the Sappi product lines that will be produced on the rebuilt PM2.

Voith Paper ventilation technology reduces production costs

Through the modernization of its ventilation technology, Voith recently helped a German paper manufacturer to reduce its energy use and therefore lower production costs. The customer now confirms that the energy saving goals which were set have even been exceeded.

Cascades launches Cascades Enviro Jet, an innovative uncoated fine paper created for inkjet printing. Cascades Enviro Jet is unique: it is the only inkjet paper with 100% post-consumer fiber in North America.

Skapa roll cover technology: Good order situation

The roll-cover producer from northern spain, skapa roll cover technology, received an order, by Sappi Gratkorn, to deliver the premium roll cover skapaCAL-nanaotec for two calender rolls of the Janus calender, belonging to the Triple-Star machine. This machine has a paper web width of 8.650 mm.

SCA to make an offer for Chinese tissue company

SCA has decided to make a public cash offer for the Chinese tissue company Vinda. The offer is conditional upon SCA achieving an ownership share in Vinda in excess of 50%. SCA is currently the second largest shareholder in Vinda, which is listed on the Hong Kong Exchange.

SCA invests in India

SCA will invest about SEK 150 million (EUR 17 million) in local production of hygiene products in southwest India. Production at SCA’s own plant is planned to commence in 2015.

A brand new recovery boiler in Mondi Frantschach, Austria, started its working life this morning. The EUR 60 million green investment in the power plant was launched at an opening ceremony attended by around 500 people.

Stora Enso to present its products and concepts at the FachPack 2013

International Paper Announces Closure of its Courtland, Ala. Paper Mill

International Paper (IP) has announced plans to permanently close its Courtland, Ala. Mill, a facility that is part of the company's Printing and Communications Papers Business. The mill will shut down in stages with a full closure expected to be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2014.

CEPI on the "barricade" against End of Waste proposal

The European paper industry represented by CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries) was on the ‘barricade’ and displayed seven bales of paper for recycling worth EUR 2,000 in front of the main European Commission building – the Berlaymont in Brussels on 11 September.
