By using wood to make paper, before burning it to create energy, we are following ecologically established cascading usage principle which also creates five times more value and seven times more jobs. The new recovery boiler will be known as RB4 and replaces the two existing units which were installed in the 1950s and 1970s. It allows the mill to greatly reduce its carbon footprint with 96% of Frantschach’s electrical energy needs now coming from renewable sources. The boiler will operate on biogenic fuel produced during the paper production process. Andritz and Porr were responsible for construction and the project was finalised on time and in budget.
