Cepi, representing pulp and paper manufacturers, with the support of partners from across the clean energy sector published today a list of EU policies needed to achieve climate neutrality in Europe by 2050, from an industrial perspective. The upcoming elections to the European Parliament and a new European Commission mandate are an opportunity for policymakers to define and address the gaps in the policy framework for climate and energy.
Demand for more greener packaging is aligning with innovation in industrial applications to future drive sales of specialty papers, according to the latest Smithers research. Data from its new study – The Future of Specialty Papers to 2028 – show production of these engineered premium paper grades will reach 26.52 million tons in 2023, up from 24.23 million tons in 2018.
Jessica Nordin is taking up the role as new Director of Sustainability at Södra with responsibility for leading and developing Södra’s overall sustainability agenda moving forward. A major focus will lie on strengthening efforts and knowledge concerning biodiversity and sustainable forestry, which are important topics for Södra.

Voting on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, the EU Parliament’s ENVI Committee endorsed definitions of ‘recyclability’ and ‘high quality of recycling’ that still needs to take into account both scientific evidence and the practical experience of a well-functioning recycling system for paper and board.
The Nomination Committee of SCA proposes that Helena Stjernholm be elected as chairman and member of the SCA board at the annual general meeting on March 22, 2024. SCA's current chairman, Pär Boman, as previously communicated, has declined re-election. Helena Stjernholm is the CEO and group CEO of AB Industrivärden, SCA's largest shareholder. Helena Stjernholm has many years of experience in board work across a wide range of industries, as well as deep knowledge regarding the capital market.
Toscotec has renewed its sponsorship of Pianeta Terra Festival, a far-reaching dive into Sustainability running from 5th to 8th October in Lucca, Italy. Following the vastly successful first edition of 2022, the festival organizers, the publisher Laterza and its director, prominent plant neurobiologist and author Stefano Mancuso, have decided to focus this second edition on the theme of “The Network of Life”, i.e. the dense, ingenious network that binds together all living creatures.

The two giant pandas at the famous Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna receive special food, which is custom-made to best meet their needs, in addition to bamboo. In collaboration with the zoo, technology group Andritz is preparing raw bamboo for their special menu. Having begun in 2019, this collaboration has now been renewed.
Pär Boman declines re-election as the chairman of the board for Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA). Boman remains the board’s chairman until the annual general meeting on March 22, 2024. “Today, I informed SCA’s nomination committee that I intend to leave SCA’s board in connection with next year’s annual general meeting,” Boman states.
Dr. Martin Siebert takes over the position of Technical Manager at Drewsen Spezialpapiere as of 01 September 2023. Dr. Siebert, who has been working for Drewsen as a Project Engineer since 01. October 2017, will use his expertise to further advance the technological development and innovation of the company. This appointment underlines the commitment to promoting talented young leaders.
Jarno Nymark (M.Sc. Eng.) has been appointed to the Andritz AG Executive Board as of October 1, 2023, assuming responsibility for the Pulp & Paper Business Area. Previously, the business area was led by Joachim Schönbeck for the capital business and Humbert Köfler for the service business. In the future, Joachim Schönbeck will focus on his role as President and CEO of Andritz, while Humbert Köfler will retire after 36 years with the company.
Dr. Hans-Peter Sollinger, CEO of Voith Paper from 2005 to 2014, turns 70. In his more than 30 years of service at Voith, Sollinger played a key role in shaping the company and made a significant contribution to its success. “On behalf of Voith Paper, I would like to congratulate Hans-Peter Sollinger on his 70th birthday,” says Andreas Endters, current President & CEO Voith Paper. “As our former CEO, Mr. Sollinger had a massive impact not just on our organization but also on the people who worked with him.
