Valmet-supplied world’s first virtual paper mill to train Mondi’s personnel prior to start-up

Valmet has delivered the world’s first fully virtual paper mill to Mondi’s new production line at the Mondi mill in Ružomberok, Slovakia. Prior to the start-up of the Valmet-supplied Old Corrugated Container (OCC) line, the stock preparation and the containerboard machine, the new machinery’s virtual design twin is being used to train operators and other personnel.

ANDRITZ to supply a new HERB recovery boiler for BillerudKorsnäs’ mill in Frövi, Sweden

International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from BillerudKorsnäs to supply a HERB recovery boiler for its mill in Frövi, Sweden. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2023. The new boiler will replace the existing recovery boiler that has been in operation in Frövi since 1969.

New ProTect NG from Voith

When measuring press felts manually, there is often a risk of jamming, tripping and slipping. At some positions, the employee is additionally exposed to enormous heat and the constant danger of a felt break also represents a significant, permanent safety risk. Yet, the measurement of felts is an important component in the papermaking process. The automated measurement with Voith's ProTect NG (Next Generation) therefore offers an excellent alternative to determine the important felt data without risk.

Stora Enso initiates a plan to permanently close down pulp and paper production at Kvarnsveden and Veitsiluoto mills

Stora Enso will start co-determination negotiations with employees at its Kvarnsveden Mill in Sweden and Veitsiluoto Mill in Finland regarding a plan to permanently close down pulp and paper production at both mills. The planned closures would take place during the third quarter of 2021, and affect directly 670 people in Finland and 440 people in Sweden.

Voith: IntensaDrum Duo for production volumes of 3,000 tons of paper per day

The papermaking process starts with pulping and separation of coarse contaminants to prepare the pulp for the subsequent cleaning steps. Based on its many years of expertise, Voith Paper now introduces the latest technology within the BlueLine stock preparation – the IntensaDrum Duo, a two-piece drum pulper.

Valmet to deliver new evaporation plant to Södra Cell Mönsterås pulp mill in Sweden

Valmet will deliver a new evaporation line 3 for Södra Cell Mönsterås pulp mill in Sweden. The new line will replace the oldest evaporation line 1 at the mill. The new evaporation plant is scheduled to start-up in the first quarter of 2023. The value of the order will not be disclosed. However, a project of this size and scope is typically valued at around EUR 30 million. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of the second quarter 2021.

Students of JAMK University of Applied Sciences participate in the production of Metsä Group’s Kuura textile fibre

Metsä Group’s innovation company Metsä Spring and the Institute of Bioeconomy at JAMK University of Applied Sciences have launched a cooperation that enables agrology students from JAMK to participate in the production of the Kuura textile fibre at the Äänekoski demo plant.

Kelheim Fibres joins the ZDHC “Roadmap to Zero” Programme

The Bavarian viscose speciality fibre manufacturer Kelheim Fibres has joined the ZDHC programme “Roadmap to Zero”. The non-profit organisation with more than 160 contributors worldwide has set itself the goal of completely eliminating harmful substances from the textile value chain. The ZDHC guidelines provide producers of Man-made Cellulosic Fibres (MMCF) with uniform criteria for measuring indicators such as wastewater, air emissions and other process-related parameters. The measured data is independently monitored and published.
