Stora Enso and Tingstad launch unique formed fiber food service bowls to replace plastics

Stora Enso is introducing its new eco-friendly take-away bowls for food service packaging, PureFiber™. The products are free from plastic and PFAS and are designed to help customers replace plastic on-the-go food packaging. The bowls are being brought to market together with the wholesale company Tingstad. The PureFiber™ product range will expand to other food and consumer goods applications.

European Parliament raises climate ambition and recognizes multiple roles of forests

CurvedBar: Voith presents new screen plate

Voith introduces a new screen plate design for pulpers used in recovered paper pulping. The CurvedBar screen plate extends service life in Voith's IntensaPulper IP-R by more than 50 percent and improves the quality of fiber suspension. The results are less maintenance effort and material use, as well as fewer downtimes, leading to a more efficient overall process and lower costs. Chinese paper manufacturer Shanying International Holding Co. LTD. has tested the CurvedBar screen plate on its PM 5 in Maanshan and is now equipping other pulping systems with the innovative solution.

Södra Cell chooses ABB to supply new Quality Control System for eco-friendly, specialty pulp mill in Sweden

Swedish pulp manufacturer Södra Cell has appointed ABB to supply and install a new, state-of-the-art Quality Control System (QCS) at its specialty mill in Mörrum, southern Sweden, which produces paper pulp and hardwood dissolving pulp for customers throughout Europe. Delivery is planned for October 2020.

Reusability of paper bags promoted by third European Paper Bag Day

With various activities throughout Europe, the European Paper Bag Day will take place for the third time on 18 October. The annual action day raises awareness of paper carrier bags as a sustainable and efficient packaging option that helps consumers to avoid littering and minimise negative impacts on the environment. This year’s edition will centre around the reusability of paper bags.

Toscotec’s tissue line exceeds production target at EuroVast Group

Italian tissue manufacturer EuroVast fired up a new Modulo-Plus tissue machine supplied by Toscotec at its Cartiera della Basilica paper mill in Villa Basilica, Lucca, Italy. PM5 is running efficiently at the speed of 1,600 m/min and since its start-up in February, it has exceeded the project’s production targets with excellent results in energy consumption.

ANDRITZ to supply sixth P-RC APMP system to Sun Paper, China

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Guangxi Sun Paper Co. Ltd., part of the Sun Paper Group, to supply a chemi-thermomechanical pulping system for its new mill in Beihai, Guangxi, China. Start-up is scheduled for autumn 2021.

Marco Esper becomes new Managing Director at Heimbach

Since October 1st, 2020, Marco Esper has joined the Management Board of Heimbach GmbH. After a successful introduction period, at the latest as of January 1st, 2021, he will take over the chairmanship of the Management Board as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and head the Heimbach Group's largest business unit Paper Machine Clothing (PMC) with the highest turnover.

Voith successfully executes start-up of five BlueLine OCC stock preparation lines for Nine Dragons Paper

In early 2017, Voith received an order for six BlueLine OCC stock preparation lines from Nine Dragons, the largest manufacturer of packaging paper in Asia. With the recently commissioned PM 41 at the customer’s Hebei site, five Voith BlueLine OCC lines, each with a production capacity of 2,000 tons per day, have now been successfully launched. The handover of the sixth line is planned for 2022.

ANDRITZ to complete and start up the folding boxboard production line at JSC Management Company

ANDRITZ has received an order from JSC Management Company of the Holding Belorusskie oboi, Belarus, to complete and start up its production line for folding boxboard. Start-up is scheduled for 2021. The board machine is designed to produce 200,000 tons per year of folding boxboard, with basis weights ranging from 170 to 400 g/m2.

Grupo Gondi expands automated paper testing to include second ABB solution at its Monterrey mill

ABB has been chosen to supply Mexican packaging paper producer Grupo Gondi with a robust and reliable automated paper testing solution for its greenfield site in Monterrey. The comprehensive order - which focuses on improving quality and efficiency at the mill - includes L&W Autoline, with a wide range of testing modules and sample trimmer and L&W benchtop testing instruments. Engineering and installation of the project is planned for completion in Q3 2020.

AFRY to design a chlorine dioxide plant for Metsä Fibre's bioproduct mill

Metsä Fibre Oy, part of the Metsä Group, and AFRY have entered into a preliminary agreement for the engineering, project management and site services of the chlorine dioxide plant at the Kemi bioproduct mill in Finland. The project is a continuation of AFRY's previous basic design of the chlorine dioxide plant.
