Andritz MeWa to supply new processing line for pulper rags to Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel, Germany

Andritz MeWa, part of international technology Group ANDRITZ, has received an order from Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel, based in Varel, Germany, to supply a processing line for pulper rags.

Xerium Technologies Granted Patent for EnerVent Roll Cover Venting Technology

Xerium Technologies announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted patent number 9,488,217 for its EnerVent roll cover venting technology. First introduced in 2014, EnerVent’s unique technology is proven to reduce energy consumption, improve drying rates and increase production output for machines producing tissue, paperboard and packaging, and graphical papers.

Stora Enso shows in Lahti World Ski Championships what a tree can do

The renewable materials company Stora Enso is the presenting sponsor of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland (22 February - 5 March 2017). Stora Enso and Lahti2017 are together leading the way in promoting and supporting sustainable events, by using renewable raw materials derived from wood and by maximising the recycling and reuse of products.

Mondi extends its heavy duty corrugated offering to the Polish market

Mondi will reinforce its heavy duty corrugated capabilities in Europe with investments in its Mondi Simet plant near Poznan. A 2.8 metre corrugator with three single facers will be installed, expanding Mondi Simet’s product portfolio to heavy duty corrugated items and providing a wider choice for its customers in the region. A 2.40 metre box maker with a stitching unit will also be installed for heavy duty conversions, allowing short production runs with boards up to six metres in length.

Four Valmet supplied tissue lines started up within three months at Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing in China

Four Valmet supplied tissue lines has been successfully started up at Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing's Chongqing mill in China within three months. The new lines, which are designed for production of high quality tissue products with low energy consumption, were all producing sellable paper from the very start.

SCA strengthens its tissue business in the UK

To meet the growing demand for high-quality tissue and strengthen the product offering in the UK, SCA is investing in a through-air drying (TAD) machine at its tissue plant in Skelmersdale. SCA has also decided to close an older tissue machine in Stubbins and signed an agreement to divest its tissue plant in Chesterfield to Sidcot Group Limited.

Voith presents dependable web break detection with innovative multi-light sensor measuring process

With WebDetect-nx, Voith has developed a new solution that identifies web breaks in paper production in a more reliable and fail-safe manner. It is based on an innovative measuring process in which a multi-light sensor measures different light sources in the visible and infrared light frequency range and interprets the measurements simultaneously at high speed. This prevents potential impairment of the measuring result to allow reliable detection of faults. This results in fewer false positives and therefore less production downtime as well as a lower risk of machine damage due to undetected breaks.

Cind signs agreement with BillerudKorsnäs

Cind, using technology from the defence and security company Saab, has entered into an agreement with BillerudKorsnäs for the measuring of pulpwood at five facilities in Sweden. With this arrangement in place, Cind has now signed nine contracts during its first year of operations.

Two new Toscotec tissue machines delivered to Vinda Paper

In December 2016, the Italian supplier Toscotec S.p.A. has delivered two tissue machines, TM 3 and 4, to Vinda Paper (Zhejiang) to be installed at its Longyou mill. The machines are scheduled to begin installation in the spring and complete start-up in mid-2017.

Valmet to supply three board machine rebuilds in North America

Valmet will supply three board machine rebuilds in North America. The customers remain confidential. The goals of the rebuilds are e.g. to increase production and the use of recycled and non-bleached fibers. The start-ups of the rebuilt board machines are scheduled for 2017 and 2018.

Pensacola Mill Incident

On the evening of Jan. 22, International Paper Company experienced significant structural damage to the largest pulp digester as well as the power house at its Pensacola pulp and paper mill in Cantonment, Fla. No one at the mill was injured.

Tomas Rosén is awarded the Alf de Ruvo scholarship 2016

Dr. Tomas Rosén’s studies into the dynamics of cellulose nanofibrils secured him this year’s Alf de Ruvo scholarship; established in memory of SCA employee Alf de Ruvo. His findings offer the potential to develop new ways of making cellulose materials that could, one day, replace fossil based material.
