Susanne Haase
Editor-in-chief
Dear ipw reader,

this does not seem to be a period of good news from Germany for this industry! First, the discontinuation of two newspapers was announced. Now, Stiftung Warentest, an independent and highly trusted test institute detected residues from mineral oil in Advent calendars assuming that these derive from the printing ink that could not be removed from recycled cartonboard. I am sure that this will create quite a stir.

Luckily, the paper industry has been working on this problem for a while already and will therefore be able to face attacks. In contrast, it has failed to prove the benefits of printed media. At least this is what the paper industry was blamed for by Julian Ingram, McCann Worldgroup’s executive vice president during the recent Hawkins Wright Symposium during British Wood Pulp Week in London (read the full story in the upcoming issue).

But: That’s not just bad news as there is still time to catch up on this!

Ipw, as always, will follow developments in any event. You just have to stay tuned.

Sincerely,

PS: Already listed in our Suppliers Directory 2013? Make sure your company is not left out! More here.
