Holmen to establish large-scale wind power on its land

Holmen’s Board has taken the decision to construct the Blåbergsliden wind farm on its land outside Skellefteå in northern Sweden. The investment totals SEK 1.3 billion and comprises 26 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 143 MW. “For Holmen, the establishment of large-scale wind power provides a logical complement to our hydro power. It’s also an effective way of obtaining added value from our forest ownership, and additional renewable electricity is positive for both Sweden and the climate,” says Henrik Sjölund, Holmen President and CEO.

Mondi joins 4evergreen alliance to complement existing forestry partnerships with WWF and WBCSD Forest Solutions Group

Mondi, global actor in innovative and sustainable packaging and paper solutions, has committed to join the 4evergreen alliance founded by CEPI, the pan-European association representing the forest fibre and paper industry. The aim of the alliance is to increase the share of fibre-based packaging in a circular and sustainable economy in order to minimise its environmental impact. The 4evergreen alliance is a three-year long project and will begin in January 2020 bringing together companies and organisations across the value chain.

Stora Enso invests in pilot plant for bio-based plastic packaging material

Stora Enso is investing EUR 9 million to build a pilot facility for enabling the production of bio-based plastics as barrier in transparent packaging. The pilot plant will convert plant-based sugars into the renewable building block required to make PEF, a bio-based plastic, mainly targeting the food and beverage industry. The pilot plant will be located at Stora Enso’s Langerbrugge Mill in Belgium.

Archroma announces CEO transition

Archroma, a global actor in color and specialty chemicals towards sustainable solutions, today announced its transition plan for the function of Chief Executive Officer. The Board of Directors of Archroma has appointed Heike van de Kerkhof to succeed current CEO Alexander Wessels effective January 6, 2020. Mr. Wessels has held the CEO position at Archroma since the Company was established in October 2013 and will be appointed as Vice Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors. He will also take on a Senior Advisory role within SK Capital working across its portfolio of investments, which includes Archroma.

Domsjö Fabriker AB and Ecohelix AB: Cooperation on hemicellulose copolymers

Domsjö Fabriker AB and Ecohelix AB have agreed to cooperate on establishing a demo scale plant for production of the hemicellulose copolymers developed and patented by Ecohelix. The parties are already cooperating on a pilot scale plant located at the Domsjö Fabriker Mill. This pilot plant has been used to verify the raw material, the process, the products and to produce sample material for potential customers.
