UPM Raflatac is pleased to announce the launch of its new Packaging Recyclability Guide, designed to help fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) stakeholders across the packaging value chain navigate the complexities of packaging design and recyclability. The new guide, which is available as a free e-book on the company’s website here or as a downloadable pdf here, offers practical information on the guidelines, definitions and criteria to help make informed label choices that will enhance recyclability.

Valmet is to supply an OptiConcept M board making line with automation and services to Anhui Linping Circular Development in China. The new board line PM 8 will produce recycled liner grades. The start-up is scheduled for the end of 2025. The order is included in Valmet's orders received of the third quarter 2024. The value of the order will not be disclosed, but such a board making line is typically worth between EUR 40 million and EUR 60 million.

Mondi announces that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the German, Benelux and UK corrugated converting and solid board operations of Schumacher Packaging¹ for an enterprise value of €634 million. This acquisition will expand Mondi’s corrugated footprint in Western Europe and add complementary fibre-based products, focused on eCommerce and FMCG, to enhance its existing customer offering.

Södra is taking action to strengthen conditions for family forestry and to develop its member offer. On 21 October, prices were raised for saw logs and small-diameter sawable ranges, and a new tool is being introduced to increase security for forest owners. Södra is also taking further steps to improve transparency in the wood market.

The EU Commission proposed a postponement of the implementation of the Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The pulp and paper sector welcomes the announcement which offers an occasion to develop a stronger framework to fight deforestation. The European Parliament and EU Council will still need to confirm the delayed phase-in.
