Voith and SEPAC: Successful partners in yet another tissue machine start-up in Brazil

Voith Paper completed the successful start-up of the TM 6 XcelLine machine at SEPAC, a company headquartered in the Brazilian state of Paraná that is among the country’s five largest manufacturers of tissue paper for sanitary purpose. Installed in the company’s Mallet plant in Paraná, the TM 6 machine went into service at the end of 2017 and produced paper within the necessary quality specifications from the very first day.

AkzoNobel to sell Specialty Chemicals to The Carlyle Group and GIC for €10.1 billion

AkzoNobel announced the sale of 100% of its Specialty Chemicals business to The Carlyle Group and GIC for an enterprise value of €10.1 billion. This transaction creates two focused and high performing businesses – Paints and Coatings, and Specialty Chemicals – as part of its strategy announced in April 2017. The transaction is expected to be completed before the end of 2018.

First ever Valmet-delivered flash dryer started up at Stora Enso's Hylte Mill in Sweden

The first ever flash dryer for purely fiber delivered under the Valmet brand has been started up with fiber at Stora Enso's biocomposite plant at Hylte Mill in Sweden. The project was completed according to schedule and all guarantees fulfilled.

Smurfit Kappa rejects revised bid from International Paper

The Board of Smurfit Kappat received a revised proposal from International Paper Company. Under the terms of the Revised Proposal, Smurfit Kappa shareholders would receive €25.25 in cash (which would be reduced to €24.605 after payment of the final dividend of 64.5 cent recommended on 7 February 2018 and to be paid on 11 May 2018 (the “Final Dividend”)) and 0.3028 new shares of International Paper common stock for each Smurfit Kappa ordinary share held by them.

Andritz launches most modern research center for tissue

The opening ceremony, attended by around 150 customers and other stakeholders from the tissue industry, was a great success. Together with the ANDRITZ experts and technical partner companies, the participants discussed the functions, designs, and features of the new PrimeLineTIAC and took a guided tour through the pilot plant. Several guest speakers also gave interesting inside views on developments in the tissue industry.

New way of producing useful compounds from birch for the cosmetics industry

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has used plant cell culture technology to develop new types of ingredients for the cosmetics industry. Cell cultures, which originated from birch leaves and seeds, produce pigments, as well as compounds that help to preserve products and inhibit the growth of harmful microbes. Cell culture technology is a natural and environmentally friendly production method.
