Thailand’s first bubbling fluidized bed boiler for thermal utilization of production residue from the paper industry

The equipment and technologies supplied by ANDRITZ will be used to generate electricity from thermal utilization of residue occurring in production operations using a recycled paper furnish. Start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2018.

Voith builds another two paper machines for banknotes in Mysore, India

Since the beginning of the year, the Government of India has been producing for the first time large volumes of paper for its rupee banknotes through the Indian Central Bank. For this purpose, Voith supplied two complete production lines to Mysore – Bank Note Paper Mill India (Pvt.) Ltd., in Southern India.

Succession at the top of Voith Group decided

The Shareholders' Committee of Voith Management GmbH has decided about the succession of Dr. Hubert Lienhard, long-standing President and CEO of the Management Board. Stephan Schaller, currently member of Voith Shareholders’ Committee and head of the global motor-cycle division of BMW Group, has been appointed as successor.

Brazilian holding company J&F Investimentos SA on Saturday accepted a proposal from Netherlands-based Paper Excellence to buy pulpmaker Eldorado Brasil Celulose SA for 15 billion reais ($4.7 billion), including debt. (Reuters)

Hamburger Containerboard invests 300 Mio Euro in new paper mill in Kütahya, Turkey

The location is situated 250 Km south-east of Istanbul. The new paper machine will have state-of-the-art technology, a width of 7,80m and an annual production capacity of 480.000 tonnes containerboard, mainly light-weight Testliner and Fluting. The 300 Mio. Euro investment will create 500 new jobs and is planned to be finalized in 2020.

Kruger PM 8 paper machine started up

The $55-million investment to purchase and install PM8 received a $39.5-million loan from Investissement Québec, which is acting as an agent of the Government of Québec in this project.

Stora Enso’s Kvarnsveden paper mill negotiations concluded

Stora Enso announced in February plans to permanently close down one paper machine 8 (PM8) and related reorganisation at the Kvarnsveden Mill in Sweden that could affect a maximum of 140 people at the mill. PM8 was permanently shut down in June, and the negotiations between central parties have now been concluded.

Georgia-Pacific to Build 100 Mio State-of-the-Art Lumber Production Facility in Talladega, Alabama

The new lumber production facility in Talladega, Alabama will cost $100 Million and will create more than 100 New jobs. Construction on the $100 million, 300,000-square-foot, technologically advanced plant is scheduled to begin immediately with an anticipated startup in late 2018. Once it is fully operational, the plant will employ more than 100 full-time employees and generate an estimated $5 million in annual payroll.

Tissue machine with 20-foot steel Yankee started up at Guizhou

Andritz successfully started up the TM5 tissue machine delivered to Guizhou Chitianhua Paper Industry Co., Ltd. at its location in Chishui, Guizhou Province. The new PrimeLineST tissue machine, with a design speed of 2,000 m/min and a paper width of 5.6 meters, will produce high-quality facial wipes, toilet paper, and paper tissues based on bamboo furnish.

VTT is developing 3D-printing materials

Cellulose nanofibrils have properties that can improve the characteristics of bio-based 3D-printing pastes. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is developing a 3D wound care product for monitoring wound condition in hospital care. However, the first commercial nanocellulose applications will be seen in indoor decoration elements, textiles and the production of mock-ups.
