Stora Enso to close its Suzhou paper mill and to divest the site in China

Stora Enso has signed an agreement to divest the key assets of its Suzhou Mill in China, including the land-use rights and buildings, to the local government of Suzhou National New & Hi-tech Industrial Development Area (SND). During its 20 years of operation, the city of Suzhou has grown around the mill, making it difficult to develop and continue industrial operations at the current site.

Valmet renews its services approach

Solenis completes the acquisition of Nuplex Pulp & Paper

Solenis, through its Australia subsidiary Solenis Australia Pty Limited, completed the acquisition of the business assets of Nuplex Pulp & Paper from Nuplex Industries Australia Pty Limited, an exclusive distributor and technology licensee of Solenis pulp and paper products within Australia and New Zealand.

Fatal accident at Valmet's project site in Sweden

On Thursday, June 2, 2016 a serious workplace accident occurred in Valmet's installation activities in the pulp mill expansion project at Södra Cell's Värö mill in Sweden. An employee of Valmet's subcontractor was seriously injured in a lifting operation and later died in hospital whilst receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the accident.

Mondi Group signs agreement to acquire Kalenobel

Mondi Group has signed an agreement for the acquisition of 90% of the outstanding share capital in Kalenobel* from ARGUS Capital, a CEE focused private equity group, and M. Olcay Hephiz, one of the company’s founders, for a consideration of around EUR90 million on a debt-and-cash-free basis (consideration for 90% of the business).

Lucart Group acquires Bokk Paper KFT

Lucart Group, through its holding company Lucart Spa, acquired the total capital of Bokk Paper kft, the main independent Hungarian player in the Away From Home (AFH) tissue products market. The name of the company has already been changed to Lucart kft.

Stora Enso to divest its Kabel Mill in Germany

Stora Enso has signed an agreement to divest its Kabel coated mechanical paper mill in Germany to Hagen-Kabel Pulp & Paper GmbH, owned by a German based investor group. The transaction is in line with Stora Enso’s strategic transformation into a renewable materials growth company. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2016.

Resolute Files Racketeering Suit Against Greenpeace in U.S. Federal Court

Resolute Forest Products Inc. announced a federal lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia against Greenpeace and a number of their associates. The complaint included federal racketeering claims and racketeering, trademark, defamation and tortous interference claims under Georgia law.

Russian JSC Syassky Pulp & Paper Mill starts up 45,000 tonne/yr Toscotec tissue machine

The Toscotec supplied AHEAD-1.5M tissue line came on stream on 29th April, 2016, well in advance to schedule at Syassky Pulp and Paper mill in Syasstroy, in the Leningrad region of Russia. The delivery agreement of the tissue machine was signed by Syassky PPM and Toscotec in December 2014.

Metso appoints Jani Puroranta as Chief Digital Officer

Jani Puroranta has been appointed the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of Metso starting August 1, 2016. The CDO will be responsible for driving the company's digital transformation and overseeing the implementation of Metso's digital strategy in close co-operation with all business areas. The CDO reports to the President and CEO.

Valmet to supply an extensive board machine rebuild for ITC Bhadrachalam mill in India

Valmet will supply an extensive board machine rebuild and automation solution for machine and quality control to the ITC Bhadrachalam mill in India. The rebuilt production line (PM1) is planned to produce high-quality lightweight coated board with a wide range of produced grades. The start-up of the rebuilt machine is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2017.

Stora Enso’s consumer board machine at Beihai Mill is up and running

Stora Enso's consumer board machine at Beihai Mill in China successfully started production on 26 May. The first consumer board on reel was produced 18 months after the start-up of Stora Enso's large-scale mill construction project in Beihai, Guangxi region.

Holmen invests in a wood treatment plant at Braviken Sawmill

Holmen is investing in a pressure treatment plant and a distribution warehouse at Braviken Sawmill outside Norrköping. The investment is estimated to amount to SEK 50 million.

Xylan, fibrillated cellulose and lignin are wood-derived polymers that could be used for improving the texture and reducing the energy content of food products.
