there is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now. Look at the Super Tuesday in the US, look at the state of mind Europe is in right now, look at all kinds of spots in the world. One thing of certainty is at least: Today is the beginning of spring. Not from the calendar, but when it comes to meteorology. Springtime. It is the chance of something new, of something different. Södra raises price for softwood pulp in Europe from April 1st

Following a period of downward price pressure last year, the softwood pulp market stabilized in early 2016 and the outlook is now improving. As a result, a number of global price initiatives have already been announced.

Anu Ahola appointed Senior Vice President, Newspaper Publishing, UPM Paper ENA

She will start her new position on March 1, 2016. Anu Ahola is currently Senior Vice President responsible for Strategy & Energy within UPM Paper ENA. She has been in her current role since 2013. Ahola joined UPM in 2007 being responsible for strategy creation and implementation processes and Paper Business Group's strategy development. Prior to joining UPM she worked for Nokia and Pöyry.

Vinda invests in three new Toscotec’s tissue lines

Two AHEAD-2.0M will be installed at its Sanjiang facility in Guangdong province, where Vinda already has eight Toscotec-supplied tissue machines running, to attain a total mill capacity of 250,000 t/y. This also represents a record-breaking achievement for the Italian manufacturer, who will accomplish start-up of its tenth tissue line on the same production base over the course of just four years.

WEPA chooses Toscotec to upgrade Cassino tissue plant in Italy

This new project will complete the multiple steps of the plant upgrade assigned to Toscotec and started in 2010 with the rebuild of the original machine into crescent former and continued in 2013 with the installation of Toscotec-Milltech Yankee Hood complete with Heat Recovery system, and in summer 2015 with the optimization of the stock preparation lines including a Toscotec TT SAF® concept delivery.

Valmet to supply paper machine wet end rebuild for Khanna Paper Mills in India

Valmet will supply a paper machine wet end rebuild to Khanna Paper Mills Private Limited located in Amritsar, India. The main targets of the rebuild are to improve end product quality, increase production and add paper grades by extending the basis weight range. The start-up of the rebuilt paper machine PM 5 is scheduled for the first quarter of 2017.

Fibria’s Três Lagoas Unit to receive world’s first automated eucalyptus seedling nursery

Robots and 3D images are some of the tools to be adopted in the forest industry’s most modern nursery in Três Lagoas Unit located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The nursery will feature last-generation technology from the Netherlands for automating the entire eucalyptus seedling production process, in an unprecedented initiative in the industry.

Major investment in Mörrum

Tthe Board of Directors of Södra decided to invest SEK 1 billion in the pulp mill at Mörrum. The investment is the second stage of a long-term initiative at Södra Cell Mörrum, and will increase the mill's capacity by 45,000 tonnes.

ABB to power the world’s most energy-efficient pulp mill

The first mill to operate fully free from fossil fuels will increase the share of renewable energy in Finland by more than two percent. It will also generate twice as much power as it consumes. ABB will supply the complete power and process electrical systems for Metsä Group’s new bioproduct mill in Äänekoski in central Finland, opening in 2017.

Valmet will supply a paper machine wet end rebuild for the Kirkniemi mill of Sappi Finland Operations Oy in Finland. The start-up of the rebuilt machine is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016.

Comet Biorefining To Build First Commercial Biomass Sugar Plant In Sarnia, Ontario

Comet Biorefining, Inc. has announced the location of its commercial-scale biomass-derived sugar facility in the TransAlta Energy Park in Sarnia, Ontario. The 60 million pounds per year plant will come online in 2018 producing dextrose sugar from locally-sourced corn stover and wheat straw. Corn stover consists of residues left in the field after harvest including stalks, leaves, husks and cobs.
