Dear ipw reader,

Brussels sure goes through some tough times right now, just like whole Europe is. Nevertheless, the CEPI European Paper Week took place in Brussels. It was an impressive event for the pulp and paper industry. Marco Mensink and his team put together such an incredible three day event (see first news item below). ipw will review the Paper Week in the upcoming issue, even though highlights such as the presentation by Jeremy Rifkin, may be hard to capture if you do not witness him "live".

Kadant Awarded Turnkey Fiber Processing Line for New Tissue Machine

Kadant received an order totaling approximately $3 million from a tissue producer in Latin America for a fiber processing line to produce pulp from virgin fiber and recycled “mill broke” fiber. The turnkey project features Kadant’s new compact fiber processing system concept designed specifically for virgin fiber pulping applications.

New wash press in operation at Södra Cell Mönsterås

Linde to make EUR 15 m gas production investment in Finnish pulp and paper industry

Linde Gases, a division of The Linde Group, today announced it will construct ECOVARTM standard on-site nitrogen and oxygen production plants for CP Kelco and Metsä Fibre, respectively, in Äänekoski, Finland. The long-term on-site gas supply agreements include plant installation, operation and maintenance. Both plants will be constructed by Linde’s Engineering Division.

Voith retrofits Braviken PM 53 to produce new paper grades

Voith has upgraded and successfully commissioned the paper machine PM 53 at Holmen Paper in Braviken, Sweden. The PM 53 can now produce various paper grades ranging from newsprint to sophisticated SC papers, including the recently developed Holmen UNIQ SC paper. This paper grade in the basis weight range 43 – 50 g/m2 is suitable for magazines, catalogs and advertising supplements.
