Dear ipw reader, (here is a guest editorial followed by our news below)

only six weeks to go, until the ZELLCHEMING-Expo and conference finally kicks off at last. From June 30 to July 2, 2015 the paper industry will come together in Frankfurt. By the way – have you registered yet?

Themed "Paper & Fiber World 2030 – a mutual future project" a varied program awaits you. Here are some of the conference’s highlights:

  • Keynote speech "Local conditions in Germany" - Dr. Utz Tillmann (Managing Director Association of the Chemical Industry e.V., VCI)
  • Keynote speech "Papermaking 4.0 - Rethinking the way of papermaking" - Bertram Staudenmaier (Member of the Board, Chairman of the Management Voith Paper)
  • "Project results Paper & Fiber World 2030" - Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Strobel (Managing Director FENWIS)
  • "Barrier solutions for innovative and sustainable paper & board packaging" - Dipl.-Ing. MBA Heiko Diehl (Global Brand Owner & Sustainability Management, BASF)
  • "Advanced cellulose products obtained from cellulose intermediates" - Prof. Dr. Thomas Heinze (Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena)
  • "Functional barriers for food packaging" - Dr. S. Stähle (German Federation of Food Law and Food Science). (The lectures and discussions will be held in English.)

The Networking Events:

  • After Fair – on June 30, 2015 at 6 pm, after the exhibition. With Hessian specialties and musical interludes to say "Welcome to Frankfurt"
  • This year’s summer evening is on July 1, 2015 at 7:30 pm in the Kameha Suite in the center of the city. Expect an entertaining program in an elegant atmosphere.

As you can see, an exciting blend of a trade fair with special exhibitions on specific themes as well as on a conference and networking events awaits you!

New Valmet-delivered tissue line started up at PT Suparma Tbk's mill in Indonesia

PT Suparma Tbk's new tissue line came on stream in Surabaya, Indonesia two days ahead of the schedule, on April 8. The Advantage DCT 100 tissue machine, supplied by Valmet, increases the company's production of bathroom tissue, towel and diaper tissue for the Indonesian market, by 25,000 tonnes per year. The new tissue line fulfills the company's ambition to produce sustainable products of high quality in a cost-efficient way.

Kemira Oyj completes the acquisition of AkzoNobel paper chemicals business

Kemira has completed the acquisition of AkzoNobel paper chemicals business announced on July 8, 2014. The value of the transaction is EUR 153 million and it will become cash-effective in the second quarter of 2015. The acquired business is expected to increase revenue by more than EUR 200 million on an annualized basis as of the completion date.

Stora Enso and Kemira initiate construction phase of water management pilot

Water is a crucial resource for sustainable plantation forestry in Guangxi, where Stora Enso leases 85,613 hectares of land and manages extensive eucalyptus tree plantations. The pulp and paper industry is one of Kemira's key customer segments, and the company has extensive know-how in water management. By joining forces, Stora Enso and Kemira are bringing together the best expertise in forestry and water management to improve the lives and surroundings of more than 2,600 villagers in Guangxi Province. The scheme also aims to find new solutions for responsible water management through stakeholder surveys, community work, and water-related capacity building.

Andritz successfully starts up tissue machine PrimeLineCOMPACT II

Andritz has successfully completed the start-up of the PrimeLineCOMPACT II tissue machine with steel Yankee supplied to LLC Pulp Invest, Kazan, Russia. The machine has a design speed of 1,700 m/min and a width of 2.8 m. The Yankee, manufactured entirely of steel, has a diameter of 3.6 m.

Successful start-up of the Valmet delivered pulp line at the CMPC Guaíba mill in Brazil

After two years of work, the new pulp line of CMPC Celulose Riograndense Ltda (CMPC) has been started-up according to schedule on May 3rd, 2015. The delivery agreement of the key technology for the new pulp line was signed by CMPC and Valmet in June 2013.
