Inometa: Better winding quality through an LDS lay-on roller

LDS stands for Low Deflection System, which means that it nearly completely eliminates a deflection of the lay-on roller in the winding direction.

To achieve this, Inometa utilizes what is referred to as a double tube principle: two CFRP pipes are firmly connected centered through a coupling point. Through this, a different bending line of the roller body can be achieved, which usually enables the reduction of the maximum deflection by a factor of 10.

LDS rollers have already demonstrated their advantages, especially for the winding of films with a thickness of less than 5 μm. Whether as a large lay-on roller in the film winder or as a pressure roller in a coating system: the LDS lay-on roller is already being used for all applications which require a very low deflection of the roller.

But especially as contact roller in a slitter rewinder, this proven system is being implemented in an increased
manner. Because especially with larger working widths, standard rollers allow the formation of the air intake between the winding layers, which should absolutely be avoided. Since 1997, more than 600 Inometa-rollers with this design have been put into operation worldwide, and the field of application options is still very far from being fully exploited.
