UPM: Joining WWF Global Earth Hour Climate event

UPM joined WWF's Global Earth Hour 2014 climate event, turned off the lights at the Biofore House in Helsinki, Finland, on 29 March 2014 from 20:30 to 21:30 local time.

WWF Earth Hour is an important reminder of the importance of actions to reduce energy consumption and increase the share of renewable energy. “In the core of our Biofore strategy is to constantly reduce the carbon footprint of our operations and to improve our energy efficiency”, says Päivi Salpakivi-Salomaa, Vice President, Environment and responsibility, UPM. “UPM has a wide range of energy sources and we maximize the use of carbon-neutral energy. Globally, 67 % of the fuels we use are biomass based and in Finland the figure is as high as 84 %."

This is the sixth time UPM joined the Earth Hour event but the first time in the history of Biofore House. The company's commitment to sustainability was clearly visible in this landmarkt building.
