Bellmer: Successful startup at NorPaper Avot Vallée, France

In order to improve the paper quality - specially regarding surface properties and printability - the company management opted for the modification of the dryer section of PM 2. To achieve this goal, Bellmer integrated some kind of “German press” into the dryer group.

Contrary to a regular press nip, here a cooled, rubber-lined press roll with separate steam pressure regulation presses against a reinforced drying cylinder. Through this principle, a special smoothing effect can be obtained. In order to achieve the optimum surface smoothness, the point of installation and the linear pressure of the German press are of significant importance. The decisive factor is the correct paper web humidity.

The engineering task as well as the project management were in Bellmer’s responsibility. The complete mounting process was performed without hall crane - although the heaviest part weighs of no less than six t!

Thanks to the good planning, erection and startup were performed according to the right schedule. The Bendtsen values referring to the surface smoothness and the quality of printability could be clearly improved tight from the beginning. The porosity values of the paper were positively influenced, too.
