GAW technologies to supply chemical preparation systems to PM5 at Palm

GAW technologies GmbH in Graz / Austria was commissioned by Papierfabrik Palm with the supply of a chemical preparation and supply system for the new paper mill in Aalen / Germany. The new paper machine PM5 will double the capacity of the plant and replace three existing paper machines. It will produce lightweight and high-quality fluting and testliner grades from recycled fiber. The plant will be commissioned in 2021 and will have an annual capacity of 750,000 tons.

The GAW scope of delivery includes systems for powder unloading, powder storage in a silo tank farm and the dosing of various liquid chemicals. Three core areas of the paper mill are operated separately: sewage treatment plant, stock preparation and the paper production itself. The order value was not disclosed. The overall PM5 project is quite extensive and Palm is investing a total of 500 million euros at the location.

“Both at Papierfabrik Palm and at GAW technologies, quality awareness is deeply rooted in the corporate culture. As a result, we are delighted that Palm has given preference to our technological expertise when awarding the contract,” explains Mag. Nina Pildner-Steinburg and Dipl.Tech. Wolfgang Senner from the GAW technologies management.

Palm is a manufacturer of newsprint and corrugated base paper, made from 100% recovered paper. Almost 1 million tons of newsprint paper and 1.3 million tons of corrugated base paper are produced at five locations in Europe. The raw materials are collected to a significant extent and processed in their own facilities. Likewise, Palm manufactures cardboard boxes for packaging solutions in 28 corrugated board plants.
