Valmet to supply automation for Gasum's LNG operations in the Nordic countries

Valmet will supply automation for Gasum's liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations in the Nordic countries. With Valmet's automation solutions, all measurement data connected to the LNG terminal operations of Gasum's subsidiary Skangas can be collected and controlled centrally. The project was preceded by a successful basic automation engineering phase.

The order is included in Valmet's second quarter 2017 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

"The successful basic engineering phase convinced us of Valmet's ability to fulfill our needs for collecting data centrally for our other supporting systems, like the energy management and ERP systems," says Pertti Norjos, Chief Information Officer, Gasum Group.

"With Valmet's automation solutions, Gasum and Skangas will be able to improve performance and work in a systematic way as well as provide a high-quality customer experience to their customers. This delivery is a good example of Valmet's Industrial Internet solution that impacts all stages of the customer's process and benefits their whole business," says Jani Hautaluoma, Director, Process Automation, Valmet.

Valmet will supply Gasum with connecting systems, operations management and a centralized database.

At the same time, Valmet will provide basic engineering for Gasum's biogas plant automation in Finland and Sweden. The target is to engineer an automation solution with which the company's biogas plants, too, can be controlled centrally.

The energy company Gasum is a Finnish gas sector (natural gas and biogas) expert that is building a bridge to a carbon-neutral society on land and at sea. Gasum imports natural gas to Finland, produces and upgrades biogas in Finland and Sweden, and then transmits and delivers these for energy production, industrial use and land and maritime transport.

The Gasum subsidiary Skangas is the leading Nordic expert in liquefied natural gas (LNG). Skangas has LNG production plants in Risavika, Norway, and Porvoo, Finland, as well as LNG terminals in Norway, Sweden and Finland. The Gasum Group has around 400 employees in Finland, Norway and Sweden. The company's revenue in 2016 totaled EUR 843 million.
