Mondi Frantschach: Fire is under control

Mondi confirms that a fire broke out at its mill in Frantschach St. Gertraud (Austria) around midday on April 29th. The fire is under control and there are no serious injuries nor any broader impact on the environment.

The team immediately activated emergency procedures, including evacuating employees from the site. A number of local fire brigades quickly brought the fire under control. One Mondi employee, a member of the site’s fire brigade, was treated at the local hospital for a minor injury. Production has been temporarily suspended while the damage assessment and root cause analysis are being conducted.

Gottfried Joham, Managing Director of Mondi Frantschach said, “The safety of our employees and the community is our top priority. At present we understand the impact of the fire is limited to the pressure diffuser. The cause of the incident and any further impact is under investigation.”
