Dear ipw reader,

the state of Massachusetts is banning plastic bags. But before the paper industry can rejoice too much: there will be a fee for paper bags. Most towns in Massachusetts have already banned plastic bags but without a fee on paper. Bostonians will not be so lucky.

Banning plastic bags is a great step in the right direction and other states, such as New York City, have proposals under way. Making consumers aware of how much worse plastic is for the environment compared to paper or paper based products is very important. In Germany the industry is heading in the same direction. At some supermarkets there are no plastic bags at all anymore.

Related to this is also the study by Billerud Korsnas below.

Paper - even brown paper bags - make for better wrapping of gifts also!

Sincerely,

your ipw and bio-fibre team
