Mondi to showcase premium papers for luxury packaging at drupa

Mondi will be showcasing its latest sustainable packaging and paper solutions based on its Pergraphica®, IQ Grass+ Packaging and IQ Board brands at the touchpoint packaging (tpp) forum at drupa 2024 (Hall 3, Stand B31). These premium papers are uniquely suited to luxurious packaging applications and various types of personalisation, such as laser engraving.

This increase is necessary to maintain the viability of Sappi’s business, the actual amount will depend on the product group. Flexible Packaging: 15%, Release Liner (CCK & Glassine): 15%, Label Papers: 10%.

SCA to increase kraftliner prices by €60 per tonne

SCA increases the prices on brown and white kraftliner in Europe by €60 per tonne. The new price is valid from June 1, 2024. “There's a growing demand for kraftliner in the market, well-supported by a balanced supply chain. SCA needs to address the ongoing cost challenges effectively to ensure a continuous supply,” remarks Mikael Frölander, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at SCA Containerboard.

Paper Machine 1 (PM1), which specialises in the production of security papers, has been operating with a new film press since February. The €1.9 million investment replaced the existing size press. The planning and realisation of this project took 12 months in total.

Sappi Europe announces a further price increase for Coated and Uncoated Fine papers

Prices for Coated and Uncoated Fine papers were increased during January and February but not to the levels necessary to maintain a viable business. Cost levels, particularly for pulp and transport have continued to increase heavily and are expected to escalate further in the coming months. Accordingly, Sappi will renew price negotiations to reach the level of min. 10% originally announced, with implementation latest by 1 May 2024.

Mondi expands professional printing and converting papers portfolio from its Slovak mill

Mondi recently put a new slitting and rewinding unit into operation at its Slovak paper mill in Ružomberok. The equipment allows for an extended capacity in narrow reels thus complementing Mondi’s portfolio offering. “We want to give our customers supply security for their paper needs in folio and various reel widths and for this we needed to extend our narrow reel capacity,” explains Bernhard Cantzler, Marketing and Sales Director at Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

SCA to increase kraftliner prices by €80 per tonne

SCA increases the prices on white and brown kraftliner in Europe by €80 per tonne. The new price is valid from April 1, 2024.

“We see an improved and solid demand in the market for kraftliner with a good balance in the supply chain. The continued cost pressure is evident and must be managed to safeguard stable supply of sustainable kraftliner,” says Mikael Frölander, Vice President Marketing and Sales at SCA Containerboard.

Mondi: Collaboration makes release liner production waste more circular

Mondi has improved the circularity of material flows in two release liner production sites in Germany and the Netherlands. 95% of the production waste is now used as secondary raw material for other industries, thanks to its strategic partnerships. By collaborating closely with industry stakeholders along the value chain, Mondi has tackled the siliconised and coated paper waste produced at its release liner plants in Jülich, Germany, and Heerlen, Netherlands. It is now repulped and valorised as secondary raw material in a range of other applications.
