Sappi Europe announces a price increase for the Fine Paper range for Overseas markets

The decrease in consumption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered strong pressure on prices. In combination with cost increases in paper production and transport this has led to unsustainable profitability levels, especially felt in our overseas markets.

Iggesund Sawmill is being modernised to allow for an increase in production. Holmen is currently investing SEK 70 million in a new drying plant which will increase its drying capacity from 400 000 to 500 000 m3.

Stora Enso and Tingstad launch unique formed fiber food service bowls to replace plastics

Stora Enso is introducing its new eco-friendly take-away bowls for food service packaging, PureFiber™. The products are free from plastic and PFAS and are designed to help customers replace plastic on-the-go food packaging. The bowls are being brought to market together with the wholesale company Tingstad. The PureFiber™ product range will expand to other food and consumer goods applications.

Marco Esper becomes new Managing Director at Heimbach

Since October 1st, 2020, Marco Esper has joined the Management Board of Heimbach GmbH. After a successful introduction period, at the latest as of January 1st, 2021, he will take over the chairmanship of the Management Board as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and head the Heimbach Group's largest business unit Paper Machine Clothing (PMC) with the highest turnover.

BillerudKorsnäs launches recyclable paper-based flow wrap

BillerudKorsnäs joins forces with Syntegon Technology to launch Recyclable Flow Wrap, a paper based packaging solution that enables a shift from conventional plastic to renewable and recyclable materials. Flow wrap is a type of flexible packaging used for many products in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector and today plastic film flow wrap is standard for FMCG.

Sappi Europe received a platinum score in the latest EcoVadis rating. The global provider of sustainable woodfibre products and solutions retained its top position from the previous year among the leading one per cent of all companies assessed which exhibit high activity and responsibility with regard to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Stora Enso invests in Forshaga to develop sustainable barrier solutions

Stora Enso is making an investment in dispersion barrier technology at its Forshaga site in Sweden, as a step in its innovation agenda. The investment of approximately EUR 10 million enables the development and production of paperboard with barrier properties that are easier to handle in a recycling process, have a lower carbon footprint and can be compostable in industrial facilities. The new equipment is expected to come into use during the second quarter of 2021.

Platinum level for Incada

Iggesund Paperboard’s mill in Workington, England, where the leading paperboard brand Incada is made, has been awarded the Platinum level by the international assessment company EcoVadis. EcoVadis assesses companies' sustainability achievements and has performed more than 65,000 assessments in over 200 sectors in 160 countries.

Sappi supports one of the first Graphic Arts Industry Hackathons

Sappi has joined forces with VIGC (Flemish Innovation Center for the Graphic Communication) and EY in their endeavor to launch one of the first Graphic Arts Industry Hackathons. A Hackathon is a method of creative problem solving designed to boost disruptive innovation. The target of this event is to create synergies, foster innovation and trigger ideas that will future-proof the print industry by tackling and contributing solutions to its most pressing challenges.

Stora Enso plans to shut down standard newsprint paper machine in Sweden

Stora Enso will start codetermination negotiations with employees at its Hylte Mill in Sweden regarding a plan to reorganise the mill, including permanent closure of paper machine PM3 and the deinking plant (DIP). After the planned restructuring, the mill would run on 100% thermomechanical pulp (TMP), improving the competitiveness of the mill. The planned closure of PM3 and the reorganisation of the mill would impact a maximum of 140 persons. PM3 is planned to be closed by the end of 2020 and the DIP latest in Q2 2021.

Sappi announces a significant step towards climate neutrality through the upgrade of boiler 11 at its SEU Gratkorn mill

As part of Sappi’s global long term commitment to sustainability and the focus it has on climate action, a decision has been reached to invest in a complete modernisation of boiler 11 at the Sappi Europe Gratkorn production site. This investment into state-of-the-art technology will see a shift from a coal boiler to a multi fuel boiler in two phases with the goal to finally use only sustainable and renewable fuels.
