Valmet to supply a new container board making line to DS Smith in Italy

Valmet will supply a new container board machine with extensive packages of automation, services, and industrial internet applications to DS Smith Paper Italia S.r.l at their Porcari (Lucca) site in Italy. The start-up of the machine is scheduled for middle of 2025. The order was included in Valmet's orders received of the fourth quarter 2022. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Mondi expands online ordering options for uncoated fine paper

Mondi provides new possibilities for sourcing paper easily and quickly. The website mymondi.net serves as a central access point. Starting from the product pages, articles from the Pergraphica® and Color Copy ranges are linked directly with suitable sources of supply. This service is open to customers in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and Great Britain. The purchasing process is handled by a network of long-standing partners and supplemented by a web shop operated by paper merchant Europapier.

Andritz to supply beverage carton recycling line to Dong Tien Binh Duong Paper, Vietnam

International technology group Andritz has received an order from Tetra Pak South East Asia Pte Ltd., Singapore, to deliver a new system for recycling of Used Beverage Cartons (UBC). It will be installed in a board production mill of Dong Tien Binh Duong Paper Co., Ltd, located in Ben Cat Town, Binh Duong Province, Vietnam. Start-up is scheduled for mid of 2023.

ICE Europe 2023: Heading for record numbers of pre-pandemic times

Last week, the 13th International Converting Exhibition ended after three days of flourishing business. From 14 - 16 March, a total of 4,850 trade visitors from 64 countries came to Munich to discover the latest machinery, systems, materials, and accessories, which is a more than 30 % increase in visitor numbers compared to the previous event. Shaping the future of the converting industry, 338 exhibitors from 20 countries showcased their products and services on a net exhibition space of some 8,700 square metres at the world’s leading exhibition for the conversion of flexible, web-based materials, such as paper, film, foil and nonwovens. With the success of this year’s edition, the show organisers announced the next ICE Europe to take place from 12 - 14 March 2024.

Innovative pulping concept from Voith ensures significant reduction of energy demand and CO2 emissions at Palm

As part of the sustainability program “Papermaking for Life”, Voith has set the goal of supporting a 90 percent recycling rate by 2030 through new fiber streams and an optimized recycling process. For this purpose the full-line supplier is continuously developing its existing product portfolio. In parallel, Voith is working on new, disruptive innovations that completely rethink the current papermaking process. One example is an innovative pulping concept that reduces energy consumption by more than 30 percent compared to conventional systems. In particular it is designed for pulping special raw materials.

Andritz completes major rebuild of high-performance board machine for MM Board & Paper, Austria

MM Board & Paper, Austria, has successfully re-started its KM3 board machine at the Frohnleiten mill after Andritz completed a major rebuild. The rebuild included several upgrade measures to improve the machine’s performance in line with the customer’s targets.

Why do we need a Recyclability Evaluation Protocol?

The industry is constantly innovating to increase the recycling rate of fibre-based packaging, but that innovation can be perfected by a strong understanding of how using different materials and components will impact the recyclability of fibre-based packaging solutions. So far, packaging producers across Europe have lacked a harmonised, objective method to assess and compare different packaging solutions’ suitability for efficient recycling.

AFRY project partner in TreeToTextile sustainable textile fibre demo plant in Sweden

TreeToTextile, owned by H&M Group, Inter IKEA Group, Stora Enso, and LSCS Invest, invested €35 million in constructing a textile fiber process technology demonstration plant in Sweden. AFRY supported TreeToTextile throughout the project in the development and implementation phases from 2016-2022. The demonstration plant is now in the start-up phase.

2030 Green vision for Africa

The Global Recycling Foundation (GRF) has launched its 2030 Vision for a Green Africa at a reception in the Churchill Room, House of Commons, London. The reception, hosted by Lord Dholakia and attended by RT Hon. Dame Eleanor Laing, Gagan Mohindra MP – Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary, The Viscount Waverley and the Ambassador of Uganda , marked the start of GRF’s 6th annual Global Recycling Day, celebrated in more than 50 countries with a global outreach of over a billion people. The Green Economy has been recognised by the African Union as crucial to employment, economic growth, peace and prosperity, supporting the goals of the African Union’s agenda 2063.
