ANDRITZ successfully starts up a new Universal Granulator UG at Péna Group, France

International technology Group ANDRITZ has successfully completed the start up of a Universal Granulator UG supplied to Péna Group in Mérignac, France. The granulator, which was installed at the existing recycling plant, shreds industrial waste used for the production of Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF).

"Spectacular"is the word the ProCarton ECMA Award jury used to express their fascination with the Carton of the Year winner. It is a 6-pack of Mini Moët bottles, designed by Van Genechten Packaging Angoulème using BillerudKorsnäs cartonboard. BillerudKorsnäs cartonboard material was also awarded in the "Save the Planet" category.

Sofidel Tissue Company opens manufacturing plant in Circleville, Ohio

Italian tissue paper manufacturer Sofidel opened a 280-acre plant, one of its most technologically and environmentally advanced paper plants in the world, with innovative machinery that increases both the quality of its products and the energy efficiency of its operations. The Circleville, Ohio, plant is Sofidel’s largest worldwide and its first integrated paper mill built from the ground up in the United States. Since expanding to the United States in 2012, Sofidel now has operations in seven states: Florida, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Valmet strengthens its automation business and acquires US-based Enertechnix

Valmet has acquired Enertechnix, a high-tech combustion diagnostics and monitoring technology company based in Washington, USA. The company develops innovative technologies for boiler imaging and temperature measuring, and holds a leading position on the US market. The value of the acquisition will not be disclosed. The company employs approximately 20 people.

Kemira increases prices of polymer products globally in Pulp & Paper as of October 15th, 2018

Kemira, a global chemicals company serving customers in water intensive industries, announces price increases for all polymer products globally in the Pulp & Paper segment. The price increases will vary based on different product types and may be significantly higher in specific countries. New prices will be effective for all deliveries from October 15th, 2018 or as contract terms allow.

BASF to increase prices in the EMEA region

Driven by continued increases in cost of key raw materials, transportation, and energy, as well as restricted availability of selected raw materials, BASF has decided to increase prices for paper wet-end and water chemicals in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa), effective October 1, 2018 or as existing contracts allow to compensate those increased costs.

Rieck has many years of experience with renewable energies and has worked for Alstom and Vattenfall before taking on his position as global Commercial Executive for GE’s Offshore Wind business in 2015.

Smurfit Kappa reinforces its sustainability credentials with state-of-the-art technology in UK paper mill

Smurfit Kappa has begun operating a sophisticated Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) to reduce emissions and increase the profitability of its Townsend Hook Paper Mill in Kent. The new CHP, which provides steam and electricity for the paper machine, will slash the mill’s carbon footprint by at least 15%. Earlier this year, Smurfit Kappa reported reaching its fossil CO2 emission reduction target three years ahead of schedule.

Toscotec partners with Chemitex-Egypt to increase sales

Toscotec signed an agency agreement for both its Tissue and Paper & Board divisions with Chemitex Egypt for Trading & Agencies, S.A.E. to increase its sales in the Egyptian market, where it recently landed a number of P&B rebuilding orders. Toscotec entrusted Sameh Habib, founder and owner of Chemitex-Egypt, with the agency. Habib has fifteen years of sales experience in the tissue and paper industries in Egypt.

Environmental Impact Assessment for UPM's possible Kotka Biorefinery is ready

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for UPM's possible Kotka Biorefinery in Finland has been completed and given to the authorities for their final conclusions. The UPM Kotka Biorefinery would produce approximately 500,000 tonnes of advanced biofuels made from sustainable raw materials for use in the road transport, marine and aviation sectors. The biorefinery's products could also be used for replacing fossil raw materials in the chemical industry.

Valmet to supply a biomass boiler to Greenalia's new power plant in Teixeiro, Spain

Valmet will supply a biomass boiler to Greenalia's new Curtis-Teixeiro biomass power plant in Teixeiro, Spain. With Valmet's boiler technology, the plant will be able to supply power in an efficient and sustainable way. The order is included in Valmet's third quarter of 2018 orders received. It was placed by ACCIONA Industrial and Imasa, a Spanish EPC contractor joint venture for the plant. The biomass power plant's takeover is scheduled for January 2020.

Metsä Wood’s birch plywood mill inaugurated in Pärnu

The new birch plywood mill of Metsä Wood, the Wood Products Industry segment of Metsä Group, was inaugurated in Pärnu today, 3 October 2018. Formal addresses were given at the event by Rene Tammist, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology of Estonia, and Ilkka Hämälä, President and CEO of Metsä Group. The investment in the birch plywood mill in Pärnu is worth EUR 55 million. It enables Metsä Wood to respond to the growing demand for birch plywood in the global market.
