Hamburger Turkey has purchased new paper machine from Valmet for paper mill inTurkey
Hamburger Turkey Ltd., part of Hamburger Containerboard, has purchased a new paper machine from Valmet for its recently announced paper mill project in Kütahya, Turkey. The Prinzhorn Group intends to double in size by 2030. The Valmet machine will have a width of 7,80m and an annual production capacity of 480.000 tonnes containerboard. It will produce mainly light-weight Testliner and Fluting. “With Valmet we already had positive experience in the past. Valmet will supply an OptiConcept M board production line with automation for Pratt Paper (IN), LLC for Pratt's new greenfield paper mill in Wapakoneta, Ohio, USA. The mill will use 100% recovered paper to produce lightweight and high-performance linerboard and corrugated medium. › more |

The new Voith XcelLine tissue machine TM 12 was started up at Guangdong Lee & Man, taking only 28 minutes from “stock on wire” to “paper on reel”. From the very first parent roll produced, the tissue was of saleable quality. Sappi expands its container board product range and with Fusion Uncoated, offers an uncoated fresh fibre liner in the corrugated board market. With the development of Sappi’s Fusion Uncoated, a fully bleached fresh fibre liner, the specialist paper manufacturer is continuing to expand its product offering for the high-volume corrugated board market. Fusion Uncoated is based on the paper concept for the already very successful Fusion Topliner. In contrast to the double-coated Fusion Topliner, Fusion Uncoated has a natural, uncoated surface. BillerudKorsnäs is impacted by shortage of pulpwood due to wet, mild winter
The root cause of the shortage of pulp wood is the unusually wet and mild start of the winter. Normal winters the ground freezes which allows for efficient forestry. At present, forestry machines cannot be used in the forests in certain areas. In addition, the possibility of driving on the forest road network is limited in some areas, which also reduces the flow of wood. The situation is the same in the Nordic countries, western Russia and the three Baltic states. › more |

Alternatives to toxic phenol compounds used in glues are being developed from softwood tannins
Finnish softwood bark contains large amounts of water-soluble tannin-polyphenols, which can be used as renewable alternatives to the fossil and toxic phenol compounds widely used in glues. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) are developing an industrial production method for a polyphenol extraction process as part of the SusBinders project. › more |
