Andritz to convert paper machine and supply a new stock preparation line for Burgo Avezzano

Andritz has received an order from the Italian Burgo Group to rebuild and convert its PM2, a printing and white writing paper machine , and its approach system into a modern brown packaging paper machine at the Avezzano mill, Italy.

Stora Enso plans to shut down one SC paper machine at Kvarnsveden Mill in Sweden

Stora Enso will start co-determination negotiations with employees at its Kvarnsveden Mill in Sweden regarding a plan to reorganise the mill, including a permanent closure of paper machine (PM) 8. The planned actions would affect a maximum of 140 employees. The paper machine has an annual capacity of 100 000 tonnes of super-calendered uncoated magazine paper (SC) and it is planned to be shut down by the end of the second quarter of 2017.

New use for paper industry’s sludge and fly ash in plastics

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland examined, as part of the EU’s Reffibre project, whether new industrial applications could be developed for various types of sludge and fly ash generated by the paper and board industry. Laboratory tests showed that these side streams can replace up to 50% of oil-based polypropylene. They can be used as a raw material in plastic composites made using injection moulding and extrusion.

Bavaria“ organised by Bio- Campus Straubing under the patronage of the Bavarian State Secretary for Economic Affairs Franz Josef Pschierer.
