Finnpulp's environmental impact assessment of new mill completed

Finnpulp's environmental impact assessment for the bioproduct mill planned to be constructed in Kuopio, Finland, is complete and it will be made available by authorities. The environmental impact assessment, created for a plant, which is planned to be constructed in the area east of Sorsasalo in Kuopio, contains researched information on the regional impacts of the construction and operations of a pulp mill.

Valmet-delivered TwinRoll press installed at Södra Cell's Mönsterås pulp mill in Sweden

A Valmet-delivered TwinRoll Evolution press was successfully installed at Södra Cell's Mönsterås pulp mill in Sweden during the yearly shutdown in the end of September. This is the 85th TwinRoll Evolution press Valmet has delivered since the model was launched in 2009.

Kotka Mills invests in environmental protection

Along with the board machinery investment, special attention has also been put on the environmental issues: more than 5 MEUR additional investment in the effluent treatment plant reduces fresh water usage and improves the cleanliness of the waste water by a great deal. The supplier of this investment is a Finnish company Flootech Oy.

Valmet to supply key technology to SCA's Östrand pulp mill expansion project in Sweden

Valmet has received a major order to deliver cooking, fiber line and evaporation plant to SCA's Östrand pulp mill located in Timrå, Sweden. This delivery is part of SCA's investment to upgrade the production of bleached softwood kraft pulp at the Östrand mill from today's capacity of 430,000 tons to 900,000 tons per year. The last start-up of the renewed pulp mill is scheduled for May 2018.

European Commission delivers value: Circular Economy package recognises renewability and closes the loop

The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) welcomes the Circular Economy package that was launched by the European Commission today. “Our expectations have been met. This major policy initiative has correctly identified the synergies needed to find real solutions. The package has reached a level of ambition rarely seen in policymaking,” says Marco Mensink, CEPI Director General.

Hallsta Paper Mill starts PM 12 after fire

The Holmen Paper restarted production on PM 12 at Hallsta Paper Mill. The machine has not been in operation since the fire in the pulp factory stopped the mill on 20 November.

ANDRITZ to supply equipment for SCAʼs Östrand pulp mill, Sweden

International technology Group Adritz has received an order from SCA to supply production technologies and equipment for the extension of SCA's Östrand pulp mill in Timrå, Sweden. Start-up is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018. The order is expected to enter into force in the next few weeks.

Consumer Board Project Update

Kotkamills Oy announced its investment plan to convert paper machine 2 to produce 400,000 t/a of recyclable folding boxboard and barrier board grades by midsummer 2016. The main machinery suppliers to project “Flying Eagle” are Bellmer Vaahto Paper Machinery Oy and Valmet Paperikoneet Oy; the first being responsible for the machinery from the wet end to the drying section of the machine and the latter for supplying the on- line coating section, reeler and winder. Both of them will work in cooperation with Po¨yry who are responsible for site design.

LignoCity – a new centre for new green technologies

Innventia, Nordic Paper and Paper Province have started a collaboration to develop the future forest-based bioeconomy. The first step is to establish an open test bed called LignoCity. Here, companies can develop and scale up technology that refines lignin to new climate-friendly fuels, chemicals and materials.

AkzoNobel opens $10 million research facility in the US

AkzoNobel has opened a new research, development and innovation (RD&I) center in Strongsville, Ohio, in the United States. The $10 million facility will support several of the company's Performance Coatings businesses, including coil, extrusion and packaging coatings.

Stora Enso opens Innovation Centre for packaging

The purpose of the centre is to create a venue for innovation and R&D work, where Stora Enso together with customers and other stakeholders can develop innovative and sustainable packaging concepts. The centre offers, among other things, a packaging design lab, presentation areas with advanced touch screen technology and virtual reality retail technology.

ANDRITZ receives follow-up order for paper machine rebuild from Cartiere Modesto Cardella, Italy

Following the successful rebuild and start-up of the wet section of the paper machine PM4 in 2010, international technology Group Andritz has received a follow-up order from Cartiere Modesto Cardella to rebuild PM3 in Lucca, Italy. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2016.

Ensyn Receives Key Regulatory Approval for its Renewable Diesel and Gasoline.

Ensyn has been granted a key regulatory approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its renewable gasoline product, RFGasoline. This approval, pursuant to Title 40 CFR Part 79 promulgated under the Clean Air Act, is required for the sale of RFGasoline into U.S. commerce.
