Roberto Villaquiran appointed as CEO of Smurfit Kappa Europe

Smurfit Kappa announced their new European management structure: Roberto Villaquiran, currently CEO Corrugated Europe, will assume the new role of CEO Europe with overall responsibility for the existing European Paper and Corrugated divisions. Roberto will report directly to the Group CEO, Tony Smurfit.

UPM and SYKE’s study on ecosystem services provides more insight into the environmental impacts of wood-based products

UPM and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) have been developing a method for assessing ecosystem services derived alongside the production of wood-based products. This pilot study focused on the environmental impacts resulting from the growth of trees used for the production of one tonne of pulp.

Norske Skog and NTE enter into a new energy contract

Norske Skog has signed an energy contract with NTE (Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk) for the supply of electricity to the Skogn paper mill.

Carton of the Year: Natural beauty gains a tactile frame

The packaging for ambuja, a natural skin care collection from Legart Forschungsatelier, was the big winner at the 2015 ProCarton ECMA Awards when it was voted Carton of the Year. The winning packaging is made of Invercote G 200 g/m2 from Iggesund Paperboard and has an exciting opening and closure mechanism that makes excellent use of Invercote’s structural properties.

Mondi Group signs agreement to acquire Ascania nonwoven Germany

Mondi Group has signed an agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the outstanding share capital of Ascania nonwoven Germany GmbH (“Ascania”) from Schloss Neugattersleben Group, a private equity investment group for a total consideration of EUR54m on a debt-and-cash-free basis (5.7x LTM EBITDA).

2015 Marcus Wallenberg PrizeÖ energy-efficient method to produce nanofibrillated cellulose

The 2015 Marcus Wallenberg Prize is being awarded to a group of researchers from Japan and France for their development of an energy-efficient method to produce nanofibrillated cellulose. Stabilizers in chemicals, food and cosmetics, raw materials for new types of textile fibres or composites or materials for wound dressing are just a few examples of the wide field of possible applications.

Ahlstrom has sold Munksjö shares worth EUR 10 million

Ahlstrom has sold 1,300,981 shares in Munksjö Oyj for approximately EUR 10 million. Ahlstrom will book a capital gain of approximately EUR 3.2 million from the transaction in its third-quarter 2015 results.

New CEO at Pöyry

Martin à Porta will start as the new President and CEO of Pöyry on 1 January 2016. Alexis Fries will continue as President and CEO until the end of 2015 and thereafter, will continue as a member of the Board of Directors. Pöyry announced the appointment of Martin à Porta on 4 August 2015.

Felix Schoeller proofing papers comply with Fogra standards

Fogra’s latest announcement has put an end to the uncertainty around standards 51 and 52. And the paper to match the new standards already exists: the Felix Schoeller Group’s Digital Media Business Unit has produced the first complete portfolio of proofing papers to comply with the new Fogra standards 51 and 52.
