Kemira: Acquiring BASF AKD emulsion business


BASF and Kemira announced that Kemira will acquire BASF’s global alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) emulsion business. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2014.

UPM: Investing EUR 160 million in Kymi pulp mill, Finland


UPM invests EUR 160 million in Kymi pulp mill to strengthen its position in the growing end use segments of the global pulp market. With the investment Kymi’s annual pulp production capacity will increase by 170,000 t up to 700,000 t of bleached northern softwood and birch pulp.

Prinzhorn Holding takes over Fritz Peters Papermill


The Austrian based Prinzhorn Holding has confirmed the takeover of the papermill Fritz Peters GmbH & Co KG. At the location in Gelsenkirchen, Germany around 140 workers manufacture a total of 205,000 t/y of corrugated board and plasterboard liner.

Södra to expand Värö pulp mill


Södra’s board of directors made the decision to invest SEK 4 billion (around USD 610 million) to implement a major expansion of the pulp mill in Värö. Work is now starting to increase the current production capacity of 425,000 to 700,000 t/y of pulp.

Stora Enso: Strengthening co-operation with IFC in China

Stora Enso is strengthening its partnership with International Finance Corporation (IFC) as part of developing its state-of-the-art plantation, board and pulp mill project in Guangxi, China. IFC has agreed to invest in an equity stake of EUR 43 million (5% shareholding) in the project .

Stora Enso: Improving formation at Oulu mill with Voith’s DuoShake

Thanks to the installation of a Voith DuoShake at the PM 6 of Stora Enso´s Oulu mill, Northern Finland, in August 2013 the Ambertec value was improved significantly for the production of paper with a basis weight of 250 g/m² at a production speed of 710 m/min.
