Editor-in-chief
Dear ipw reader,

Mikael Ankerfors just obtained his licentiate degree with his thesis “Microfibrillated cellulose: Energy-efficient preparation techniques and key properties”, which summarizes the effects of research within this field at Innventia.

Ankerfors’ thesis describes three processes that are industrially feasible and enable production with up to 98% lower energy consumption than that presented in earlier studies. Furthermore, the quality of MFC – such as a film’s mechanical and optical properties and oxygen barrier – can be improved. This scientific work could be a big step for the commercialisation of MFC and they say that  Stora Enso is already investing in a pre-commercial production facility in Imatra.

By the way: We have have just edited the first so-called Biofiber supplement to our ipw regular magazine: It is all about the potential of a world next to pulp and paper and will be launched during CEPI Paperweek in Brussels.

Make sure that you get your copy there or by sending an email to info@ipwonline.de!

With kind regards

Sincerely,

PS: Find out about our new biofibre magazine here!
